The Vejen Art Museum houses a unique collection of Danish symbolism from the late 19th century.
The museum was founded in 1924 to house the works of the sculptor and ceramist Niels Hansen Jacobsen. Later a collection was built of works by his friends and collegues - the draughtsman Jens Lund and the painters Ejnar Nielsen, Axel Hou and Anna E. Munch among others.
The symbolist artists tried to give aesthetic form to the thoughts and ideas of man - this led to thoughtprovoking and fascinating works of art. Today the collection policy of the museum aims consistently at throwing light on this exiting period in the Danish art history.
