 Holstebro Kunstmuseum

In order to illustrate the universal nature of art, Danish works at Holstebro Kunstmuseum are hung side by side with other Western art and art produced in non-western countries. The museum building is an artistic attraction in itself, featuring as it does a mixture of light rooms and areas of alternating size and shape, designed by Hanne Kjerholm to create a sense of intimacy that is monumental at the same time. The artists represented in the museum''s superb collection of Danish works produced between 1920 and the present day include: Ejler Bille, Gutte Eriksen, Sonja Ferlov, Henry Heerup, Anna and Erik Thommesen, Gertrud Vasegaard and Albert Mertz. Astrid Noack, Lauritz Hartz and Harald Leth are among the representatives of artists who work in a more traditional manner. Younger artists are represented in works by names such as John Olsen, Kirsten Christensen, Lisbeth Nielsen, Hanne Sejrbo and Jan Sivertsen.
The collections of modern graphics produced outside Denmark include series by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Alberto Giacometti, Marc Chagall and Francis Bacon.
The collections of non-western art illustrate the links forged in the twentieth century between '"primitive'" art and the centuries-old European art tradition. Major collections in this area include Poul Holm Olsen''s collection of African art, the collection of pre-Colombian Peruvian ceramics and the collection of Balinese folk art.

The Jens Nielsen & Olivia Holm-Møller Museum presents the works of these two artists in an architecturally beautiful and intimate museum complex that was designed by Inger and Johannes Exner. In the summer of 1998, the museum was extended with the addition of two galleries and a courtyard. The museum complex creates a unique atmosphere that accords nicely with the nature of the art on exhibition.Jens Nielsen and Olivia Holm-Møller both attempted to depict the more profound themes in life, primarily as these are expressed in the Christian tradition.
In addition, works by living artists who attempt, in the broadest sense, to illuminate religious, spiritual and ethical aspects of existence are exhibited at the museum. Works by artists such as Niels Helledie, Bodil Kaalund, Palle Nielsen and Per Ulrich are featured in special exhibitions. Sculptures by Per Ulrich and Torvald Westergaard can be seen in the courtyards. Interesting special exhibitions are held regularly.
